Post # 91 Fun with Photos

I used the Cartoon effect in FotoFlexer and in BeFunky. The results were similar but not the same. I prefer the cartoon effect in BeFunky because the colors are brighter.

I used Pho.to to create a new profile picture:

I have flickr, photobucket and facebook accounts but I don't usually use these to store my photos. Privacy is a concern for me when sharing my photos. I would only want my friends and family to be able to see my pictures. I guess if I had to choose my favorite site it would be photobucket only because I use it more often than flickr.

Post # 89 Basic Photo Editing

For this picture I used the red-eye fix in Picnik and the 1960's effect.

The red-eye fix is important for me since my dogs pictures usually have this problem. Also I regularly use the cropping tool and resizing. It is also fun to use some of the different effects on the pictures. I have Photoshop at home which I use occasionally but for quick fixes I like to use Picnik. I had not heard of Fotoflexer but I tried it out and I think I will probably be using this website in addition to the others.

Post # 88 Wave, Buzz, and Mobile

Google Wave would be great for making plans for a party, a group project at work, or for holding a meeting online. I do not currently use an online collaboration tool.

If I had internet service on my cell phone I would probably use Google Mobile and Google Search on my phone. Google Mobile has access to Maps which would be helpful when I get lost while driving or to find addresses and phone numbers for businesses. Also Gmail is available for use on the phone so I could check my email. Google Search has a way to check products prices which would be helpful while shopping.

I took the tour of Google Reader. I do not currently use a feed reader and I do not plan to start. The websites I go to regularly do not have feeds. Using Google Reader I subscribed to the library's feed.

Post # 86 Calendar and Documents

I created a calendar in google and added some events to it. I think I might try using this to keep track of appointments and occasions instead of carrying around a calendar. This would be useful for some people to share with family but I would not be sharing mine.

I created a new document in google docs and I also tried uploading a document. I would use this in addition to Microsoft Word. Google docs would be very useful if you did not have access to Word.

Post # 85 Resistance is Futile

The only google product I use on a regular basis is gmail. I don't think gmail is any better than yahoo mail; I just use it since I needed a second email address for junk emails.

I looked through the google labs pages and tried out a few of them. Most of these seem like a good way to waste time and I will probably never use them. I do occasionally use google maps which was listed in the google labs pages.

I searched google books for some of the gaming magazines I read but they were not available. This website would be helpful in the library since there are many classic books available that students could download if needed.

Post # 81 - The Future of Media

I think the new 3d technology will probably have the most influence. A tv that is 3d sounds like something I would like to get someday. Also, I would like to try playing video games in 3d. Gaming would be even better in 3d as long as it doesn't take away from the stunning graphics that most games have. I rarely keep up with new technology so there is not one that I have been following.

I am not an early adapter of every new gadget. My favorite new gadget is my mp3 player.

I have watched movies on my computer but I prefer to watch movies on my tv. It is much more comfortable to sit in the recliner in front of the tv than in front of the computer.

I was able to use the IMDB website to watch a movie trailer. Occasionally I use the Yahoo Movies website to watch trailers but I don't usually keep up with upcoming movies.

I don't think I would ever use a fee-based service to get movies. Most of the movies I watch I get from the library. I use Redbox for the movies we don't have here at the library.

I checked out Hulu.com and Tv.com and found that my favorite show, Lost, is available on these sites. The full episodes are available as are clips from the show. Hulu.com has all of the six seasons available to watch. Tv.com has only the latest season available.

I have never watched a tv show on my cell phone. I am not interested in doing this because the screen is so small on my phone. I would much rather watch tv on a big screen.

There are no streaming programs or user channels that I watch. I have never posted videos to a site.
